BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Kindred is a Board-Certified Dermatologist, researcher, published author, and national speaker who treats people of all ages and ethnicities. In addition, she has a niche in hair loss. This passion was garnered during her residency at Howard University, the institution that pioneered Ethnic Dermatology. Dr. Kindred began her studies at the University of Southern California where she received her Bachelor of Science with a minor in Spanish. She then relocated to Ohio, earning not just her MD degree, but also an MBA at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Kindred was awarded a full scholarship as a Yates Fellow for the MBA program. She was the third person in the history of University of Cincinnati to complete the MD/MBA program. Soon after graduating from dermatology residency at Howard University, she became a leading dermatologist at MedStar Health in the Baltimore area. Five years later, she founded Kindred Hair & Skin Center in Howard County, Maryland where she treats patients from across the country. In 2018, she partnered with Susan Peterkin (senior cosmetologist and co-founder of the Natural Hair Industry Convention) to service her hair loss patients. Together, they created PeterKINdred Hair & Scalp Wellness Center. This made Dr. Kindred the first dermatologist to own a practice with a full-service in-house salon. Regularly, dermatologists and students shadow Dr. Kindred to enhance their skills as Dr. Kindred remains on the cutting-edge of hair loss treatment. She performs Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix, or PRFM, along with other procedures for hair loss on a regular basis. Locally, Dr. Kindred is heavily involved in community service, often organizing health fairs and working with local churches. Within the field of dermatology, Dr. Kindred is the • Chair of the Intersociety Diversity Task Force of the American Academy of Dermatoogy (AAD) • Medical Board member of the National Psoriasis Foundation • Past Chair of the National Medical Association, Dermatology Section • Founding President of the Onyx Medical Society • Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Howard University On a broader scale, Dr. Kindred has been featured on Vogue.com, Disney Doc McStuffins, WMAR Baltimore ABC, WJZ Baltimore CBS, WBFF Baltimore Fox, National Public Radio (NPR), Dermatology Times, Essence, Allure, Harper’s Bazaar, and other media. Dr. Kindred has several publications concerning an array of dermatologic topics. She has also co-written chapters in dermatology textbooks. Her publications include but are not limited to hypopigmented mycosis fungoides, ethnic skin, and of course, hair loss (alopecia).
