BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Cheri Frey is an assistant professor of dermatology at Howard University, where she also serves as the Residency Program Director, Skin of Color Research Fellowship Co-director, Beacon of Hope Fellow in Clinical Trials, and Director of Cosmetic Dermatology. Dr. Frey was born in Washington, DC. She was a National Achievement Scholar, earning a full merit scholarship to Iowa State University where she graduated with distinction. Dr. Frey earned her medical degree from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine and completed her internal medicine internship and dermatology residency at the University of Florida. Dr. Frey served as chief resident and was a recipient of the Outstanding Resident Teacher Award as an intern and dermatology resident. Dr. Frey began her career as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the University of Florida before transitioning to private practice outside of Washington, DC. In 2021, she joined the faculty at Howard University where she works full time. Dr. Frey has published in peer-reviewed journals and authored several textbook chapters. Dr. Frey is an expert in cosmeceuticals and is frequently invited to lecture both nationally and internationally. Her clinical and research interests include Alopecia, Acne, and Dyspigmentation. Dr. Frey is currently enrolled in the Georgetown University Biomedical Graduate Education Clinical and Translational Research program with the goal of increasing representation in clinical trials. She is a Principal Investigator and the recipient of several research grants including a Dermatology Foundation Research Award. Dr. Frey is the current Chair of the Dermatology section of the National Medical Association. She serves on the editorial board of Practical Dermatology and the board of the American Acne and Rosacea Society. Dr. Frey is a former Young Physician Representative to the Women’s Dermatological Society and serves on various committees within the AAD, ASDS, and Skin of Color Society.
