DESCRIPTION

The majority of dermatological conditions can be diagnosed through an office visit, often with the support of a biopsy interpreted by a dermatopathologist. Sometimes, correlating clinical findings with pathological results (CPC) is crucial for a definitive diagnosis. In certain cases, further tests may be necessary, such as immunofluorescence or molecular studies like PCR, next-generation sequencing, or FISH. This session will concentrate on the diagnostic aspects of dermatological conditions that extend beyond the clinical examination of the patient, including case examples.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1.

List examples of molecular studies that can be helpful in diagnosing dermatologic conditions.

2.

Discuss the impact of molecular studies on the diagnosis and classification of melanoma and atypical melanocytic/Spitzoid neoplasms.

3.

Identify situations in which PCR testing can assist in the diagnosis of dermatologic conditions
