BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Gwillim completed his medical training at the University of Illinois followed by two years of general surgery training with the Metropolitan Group Hospitals Residency in Chicago, IL. He pivoted from surgery and completed dermatology residency training with Jackson Health System/University of Miami, Dr. Phillip Frost Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery. Throughout his career, he has worked on developing innovative solutions to complex problems in medicine, surgery, quality improvement, and patient safety/care. He has five years of full-time research & product development experience; one year of independent operations, one year with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, focused on medical/surgical simulation systems and three years of dermatology clinical trials research; one year at Northwestern University, Chicago, IL. and two years at the University of Miami, FL. where he served as sub-investigator on many Phase II and III trials for conditions such as atopic dermatitis, alopecia areata, bullous pemphigoid, onychomycosis, lichen planopilaris and basal cell carcinoma. Currently, he is a Clinical Fellow (PGY5) in Micrographic Surgery & Dermatologic Oncology with Scripps Clinic, San Diego, CA., training under Dr. Hugh Greenway. He also serves as a Voluntary Associate Professor with the Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Miami, FL. Dr. Gwillim is passionate about discovering solutions for medical/surgical practice gaps and creating transformative digital platforms that promote enhanced learning and optimize the patient care experience. He is perfectly situated between the leading edge of educational research and patient communication/training with his current work focused on how to best deploy artificial intelligence to improve communication and learning. He is the Founder of Elli & Co., a medtech company with a vision to creatively solve problems that affect many patients. In his spare time, he likes to promote innovation, encourage collaboration, and support education through DermNation, a digital platform looking to unite derm-minded people. He welcomes collaborative efforts to fast-track technology development so that patient care can be optimized by using products that seek first to serve the needs of many.
