BIOGRAPHY

Jeff Klein is full-time independent private practice medical and surgical dermatologist in San Juan Capistrano and volunteer clinical professor of dermatology at UC Irvine. He lives in Newport Beach with his dermatologist wife, Kathleen Hutton. He is a clinical pharmacologist with 48 medical journal publications and several US Patents. All of his research is self-funded. Jeff is the founder of HK Surgical, a medical device company which markets devices he has invented. Jeff was born in Los Angeles and grew up surfing in San Clemente. He studied math and physics as an undergraduate at UC Riverside. He has graduate degrees in mathematics from UC San Diego, and biostatistics from UC Berkeley. After graduation from UCSF School of Medicine, he completed residencies in internal medicine at UCLA, and dermatology at UC Irvine. He was an NIH research fellow in clinical pharmacology. In 1985 He invented tumescent epinephrine lidocaine (TEL) local anesthesia which provides pure sensory regional anesthesia Today Jeff’s research is focused on “targeted interstitial Tumescent Drug Delivery (TDD)”, an entirely new mode of drug delivery that is distinct from the traditional IV, IM, PO modes of systemic drug delivery. It allows painless wide area subcutaneous targeted injection of large volumes of highly dilute drug combinations at any localized target lesion.
