BIOGRAPHY
I am an accomplished, visionary, and innovative leader in the field of Dermatology with 25 years of clinical, teaching, research and administrative experience, I am well-prepared to make significant contributions that advance patient care, education, research, and healthcare policy. My expertise includes providing outstanding inpatient and outpatient care and possessing a great depth of knowledge, acumen, and experience in the diagnosis and management of challenging inflammatory and neoplastic cases, based on my unique combined practice of clinical, hospital, teledermatology, and cosmetic dermatology, dermatopathology and immunodermatology. I have renowned expertise in inflammatory dermatoses, autoimmune diseases, vasculitis, alopecia, oral and nail disease, lymphoma, panniculitis, drug reactions, melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers. I am a recognized researcher in numerous areas - active in research and clinical trials, serving as an investigator in digital pathology, artificial intelligence, bullous disorders, melanoma, pigmented lesions, psoriasis, squamous cell carcinoma, COVID and dendritic cells. I have done research in academia and pharmaceutical industry in biochemistry, molecular biology, and test development. My bibliography lists over 75 peer-reviewed (over 50 since my last promotion in 1/2017) original papers and articles in journals such as the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Nature Immunology, Human Pathology, Mayo Clinic Proceedings, Journal of Cutaneous Pathology, Cardiovascular Pathology, and International Journal of Dermatology, as well as book chapters, letters, and commentary. I review for many journals, including JAMA Dermatology, Journal of Cutaneous Pathology, Embody Health, International Journal of Dermatology, International Journal of Women’s Dermatology, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, and Mayo Clinic Proceedings. I am dedicated to education and have mentored over 200 residents, fellows, and visiting clinicians, with many going on to academic appointments at Mayo Clinic, Saint Louis University, University of South Florida, Henry Ford Medical Center, Veterans Administration, University of Utah, University of Texas, University of Chicago, Scripps, UCLA, Harvard, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey. I have presented numerous intramural lectures, engaged in curriculum development, served as scientific chair and course director locally, nationally and internationally. Several of my trainees were awarded mentorships to learn and train with me. I have influenced the lives of many students, residents, and fellows nationally and internationally as a mentor, teacher and colleague. I am a frequent, skilled speaker and session chair at national and international events. I have directed courses at the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society of Dermatopathology, and International Society of Dermatology on inflammatory and neoplastic dermatopathology, autoimmune diseases, vasculitis/vasculopathy, hospital dermatology, panniculitis, infections, pigmented lesions, and ulcers. I have extensive administrative experience. I have had significant leadership roles in the Dermatology Department, as well as a pivotal role in the education of students, residents, fellows and colleagues. I am the Section Head of Dermatopathology and Director of Cutaneous Pathology for the Northwell Cancer Center. As Director of Cutaneous Pathology for the Northwell Cancer Center, I am an integral role in the standardization of care, research, clinical trials and tumor board workgroups. I am the director of Dermatopathology Education for Anatomic Pathology. I served as Chair of the Psoriasis Specialty Group and the Clinical Competency Committee for the Dermatopathology Fellowship. I am emeritus director of a Dermatopathology and Immunodermatology fellowships at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester. I served on the Bone Marrow Transplant/Graft versus Host Disease, Lymphoma, Melanoma, Nonmelanoma Skin Cancer, Alopecia, Bullous/Connective Tissue Diseases, and Artificial Intelligence interest groups. Prior to joining Northwell, I served as Director of Immunodermatology at Dermpath Diagnostics in Cincinnati, OH. Nationally, I make leadership, advocacy, and health policy contributions as an advisor for the American Medicine Association-Relative Value Scale Update Committee and the MACRA Hospital Medicine Subcommittee for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid. I am Chair of the American Academy of Dermatology Dermatopathology Committee and Deputy Chair of the Moh’s Committee, Deputy Chair of the Council on Government Affairs and Health Policy, Health Finance Committee, Patient Access and Payer Relations Committee, Curriculum Task Force, Appropriate Use, and Resource-based value Scale and Current Procedural Terminology committees. I am a member of the Strategic Planning Committee, Appropriate Use Committee, Quality, Health Policy and Work Value Policy Committee, History Committee and Maintenance of Certification Committee for the American Society of Dermatopathology. I am a member of the American Dermatological Association. I am on the mentorship committee for the Women’s Dermatologic Society and Scientific Program Chair and on the Finance Committee for the Noah Worcester Dermatological Society. I am a member of the EXCITE National and International Panel as an expert on pigmented lesions I am on the editorial board of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and Associate Editor of Cutis I am a member of the National Immunodermatology Diagnostics Collaborative Consensus Working Group bringing together experts in Immunodermatology diagnostics to publish appropriate use guidelines and collaborate on research and new test developments.
