S042 LGBTQ/SGM Health in Dermatology: Essentials and Updates

This session aims to better enable dermatologists to provide medically appropriate, culturally sensitive, and culturally humble care to LGBTQ/SGD persons. Covering basic as well as advanced knowledge domains while emphasizing the latest research in LGBTQ/SGD healthcare, topics include core terminology and fundamental concepts, dermatological conditions that uniquely impact the LGBTQ/SGD population, medical and procedural sexual and gender diverse dermatology, and considerations related to broader diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts as dermatologists work to establish safe, welcoming, and affirming spaces for this population.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Identify and outline basic concepts of sex and gender as well as fundamental and core terminology used to describe, characterize, and study the sexual and gender diverse (SGM) population.
Summarize and discuss LGBTQ/SGM-related health disparities, including dermatology-related and overall health disparities, as well as general approaches to affirming care and establishing a safe space for LGBTQ/SGM individuals. Describe common skin concerns in this population (both medical and procedural) and their management. Summarize and discuss screening and prevention of disease among LGBTQ/SGM individuals. Identify opportunities for collaboration and co-management with other subspecialties in the context of patient-centered care and individual goals.
