Leg reconstruction is a topic seldomly covered, but often encountered by cutaneous surgeons. Procedures in this area are subject to high tensile forces from activities as simple as walking, reduced perfusion pressure and higher rates of infection and dehiscence. This session will cover: the critical anatomy of the leg ankle and foot; use of local and regional anesthesia; reconstructive approaches including second intention healing, linear repair, flaps, and grafts; post operative wound management and complication prevention strategies.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Recognize critical neurovascular structures on the legs and how to approach tumors in these areas
Develop a reconstructive ladder for leg, foot and ankle reconstruction
Outline advantages and disadvantages of each reconstructive method
