U090 Reflectance Confocal Microscopy in Dermatology
DESCRIPTION
Open admission to eligible categories, no tuition or ticket
The session will review the technology and principles involved in reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM), normal anatomy as seen in confocal mosaics, and review how to diagnose benign and malignant neoplasms in the skin with RCM. The course will include clinical-dermoscopic-confocal-pathologic correlations. Additionally, we will review how to initiate and apply confocal in a busy dermatology practice reviewing the benefits to patients including a reduction of unnecessary biopsies. Application of RMC for the Mohs surgeon will also be addressed. Finally, an expert cutaneous oncologist will review how RCM has impacted his practice.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Analyze confocal images of benign and malignant skin lesions effectively using reflectance confocal microscopy
Order appropriately and demonstrate the utility of confocal microscopy for evaluation of skin lesions
Determine which lesions need to be excised and which lesions can be followed clinically
