The human microbiome describes a collection of bacteria, fungi, and viruses living on or within the human body. There is growing evidence that perturbations in the composition and diversity of these commensal microorganisms may play important roles in a wide range of human diseases. In this session, we will summarize the current literature on the gut microbiome research, discuss the relevance of the gut microbiome in cutaneous inflammation, autoimmunity, and oncology, and highlight the role of the gut microbiome in the management/treatment of skin diseases.
This session has been earmarked as potentially of interest to those seeking Integrative Dermatology perspectives.
