DESCRIPTION
Open admission to eligible categories, no tuition or ticket
This session will provide a foundation for diagnosing and managing alopecia in Black women. Hair care practices and products will be reviewed in light of both their role in disease development and support of medical treatment. Diagnosis of common conditions, including traction alopecia, alopecia areata and central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia will be discussed. The use of trichoscopy and dermatopathology as diagnostic tools will be examined. Medical and procedural treatment modalities will be addressed, including use of platelet-rich plasma and hair transplantation. The impact of hair care and hair loss on the overall health of Black women will also be considered.
