U010 Dermatologic Infections in the Immunocompromised Host
DESCRIPTION
Open admission to eligible categories, no tuition or ticket
With rising rates of immunosuppression in the general population due to novel therapeutics, malignancy, and hematopoietic and organ transplantation, dermatologists are increasingly involved in the care of immunocompromised patients. Prompt recognition of cutaneous infectious disease in immunocompromised patients is essential to avoiding morbidity and mortality in this vulnerable population. This session will review the most common infectious diseases affecting the skin in immunocompromised patients and will be organized by host, including those with iatrogenic immunosuppression, HIV/AIDS, hematologic and solid organ malignancy, and hematopoietic stem cell or solid organ transplantation. Diagnostic pearls and management recommendations will be emphasized.
