DESCRIPTION

Open admission to eligible categories, no tuition or ticket

Allergic contact dermatitis may be a chronic itchy eruption until allergens are identified and avoidance is instituted. Changes in exposures to potential allergens may occur due to industry alterations in ingredients, new products entering the marketplace, or fads in utilization induced by social media. Newer allergens, who will benefit most from testing, and which patient needs more than the TRUE test will be addressed. Patch testing may fail to identify an allergen in patients with eczema. I will also review how I discuss this situation with patients.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1.

Identify and discuss the most common, as well as the newly emerging, allergens causing allergic contact dermatitis.

2.

Evaluate patients who need patch testing to better choose those needing referral.

3.

Assess the indications and limitations of the TRUE test.
