DESCRIPTION

Open admission to eligible categories, no tuition or ticket

Certain substances that are applied topically or taken systemically absorb ultraviolet radiation and may trigger photosensitivity reactions. This session will provide a practical overview of photoallergic and phototoxic contact dermatitis, including common and emerging causes, diagnostic workup, and therapeutic strategy. Chronic actinic dermatitis, a photosensitive condition that may be associated with photoallergy, will also be reviewed, with an emphasis on growing recognition of its occurrence in younger patients with skin of color.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1.

Evaluate the patient with photodermatitis with greater confidence.

2.

Identify established and emerging causes of photoallergic and phototoxic reactions.

3.

Recognize that chronic actinic dermatitis may present in young patients with skin of color, and select the best treatment based on up-to-date literature.
