The immune system drives many diseases in dermatology, and many of our therapeutic approaches are designed at harnessing the immune system. This focus session is designed as a review of the basic branches of the immune system as they relate to clinical dermatology.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1.

Summarize the different branches of the innate (complement, TLR) and adaptive (T, B cells) immune systems and understand the role that each plays in various skin diseases

2.

Evaluate aberrant immune states, such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and others

3.

Identify appropriate biologic medications to intervene in various disease states
