S013 Follicular Rescue in Scarring Alopecias: Treating to Halt Disease Progression and Grow Hair
DESCRIPTION

This course will help the dermatologist understand the indications for treating scarring alopecias. The faculty will discuss therapeutic approaches and emerging literature on lichen planopilaris, frontal fibrosing alopecia, and central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia. Dermatoscopic and pathologic cues to viable hair growth in the scarring scalp will be covered. Familiar clinical treatments used in new combinations as well as an approach to healthy hair care practices will be covered. Utilization of new therapies, like PRP and microneedling as well as indications for adding treatments like oral minoxidil for adjunct treatment, will also be discussed.

Describe the concept of follicular rescue in scarring forms of hair loss
Demonstrate the signs of treatable scarring alopecias using dermoscopic and pathologic cues
Discuss the therapeutic ladder of treatments to treat scarring alopecias with familiar and new therapies
