F001 Managing Office Politics of Physicians, Patients and Personnel: Pick Your Poison
DESCRIPTION
Open admission to eligible categories, no tuition or ticket
The present economics of office/ hospital practice may have allowed for the insidious onset of seemingly out of control burnout, a toxic environment, with difficult people and situations threatening one’s personal ethics and joy of practice. Patients are treated as customers and healthy employee relations threatened by harassment claims and weaponized in social media. This interactive session will review scenarios dealing with management and navigation of the current state of office/hospital politics, focusing on the pitfalls and risks to dermatologists, their staff and patients. Participants will be given many practical strategies that can be immediately employed to reduce stresses.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Analyze and identify the issues and triggers for how office politics can lead to physician burnout as well as discuss many techniques to solve these stresses in our office.
Recognize the changes in patient expectations as customers and the impact this has on staff and clinic dynamics.
Utilize case discussion, audience participation, and sharing of experiences from various practice settings to evaluate pitfalls for physicians in navigating office politics, in order to rediscover the joys of practicing dermatology.
